Wheat Variety Karan Shriya (DBW 252)

Problem Description: This variety Karan Shriya (DBW 252) with high resistance to foliar diseases and tolerance to drought, was developed for timely sown restricted irrigation conditions of North Eastern Plains Zone. Although there are released varieties K1317, HI1612 and HD3171 for similar conditions but none of them has resistance to wheat blast- a future potential threat in wheat areas of NEPZ and tolerance to drought stress. Solution Description: Variety is released for commercial cultivation under timely sown restricted irrigation condition of North Eastern Plains Zone. The average yield of DBW 252 is 36.7q/ha with a potential yield of 55.6q/ha. It is highly resistant to wheat blast disease which is potential future threat in the north eastern plains zone. This variety is also resistant to most of the foliar diseases of wheat. This variety is drought stress tolerant that can be beneficial for realising high yield under water scarcity conditions. It possesses good quality attributes (10.3% protein, 78.1kg/hl test weight, 76.6grain hardness index, 61.2ml sedimentation value) and better end-product making qualities (458ml bread loaf volume, 7.8 biscuit spread factor, 96.5 gluten index). Recommended region of cultivation includes Easter U.P., Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, plains of Assam.
